Corporate Blogging
The term ‘Corporate blogging’ often results in mixed feelings. Corporate websites should keep up with developments and embrace new technologies. But what is the added value of a blog and doesn’t it take too much time? Online recruitment can definitely benefit from an effective blog.

What do you see?

Accenture offers a multitude of blogs, available from the global Careers section. They can be found as related links on the right-hand side of each page.

There are blogs from different perspectives:
  • A recruiter
  • An experienced consultant
  • Some consulting analysts

Why is it effective?

Corporate blogs often provide insight in the daily business, discuss topical issues and at the same time communicate brand values. Blogging for recruitment purposes has a greater goal: convincing people to work for your company as well.

Of course you can describe your working culture, or give typical characteristics of the people that work in your company. But letting your employees do the talking is way more effective. Visitors can picture what it is like to work at Accenture and it is easy to relate to a future colleague. Your employees can answer their questions and may enthuse them to work at your company. A blog is perfect for this purpose.

On the other hand, corporate blogging is time consuming and risky. It is hard to find employees with a talent for writing and once you have found them, you have to make sure they blog regularly and do not misrepresent your company.

What to remember

  • If you place weblogs on your recruitment website, make sure they are:
    - Topical and up to date
    - Realistic and truthful
  • Weblogs should not be one-way communication. Offer visitors the possibility to post a comment or ask a question.
  • Make sure the blogger replies in his next blog.
  • When, after weighing the pros and cons, you have decided to give blogging for recruitment purposes a try, make sure to follow these golden rules:
    - Collect a team of bloggers, it is not a one man’s job.
    - Make sure each blogger is dedicated and disciplined to write a blog at least once a week. Draw up a schedule: who will publish when?
    - Give bloggers freedom of speech, so their scribblings are authentic and trustworthy. A reader will notice interference of the communications department! However, there is no harm in setting blogging guidelines
    - Bloggers should always aim for interaction with visitors. Ask for their opinions, raise questions, respond to their comments. This will liven up the blogs.
